The most probable reason that the book of Sirach has been ignored is because people scamming money in religious buildings want people to adore and worship them rather than have them spend time with their actual parents.
'Honor your father and your mother' is not supposed to lopsided nor ignored. This is a very vague statement to many, but the book of Sirach, chapter 3, does properly expound on this requirement.
